Feminist Gift Guide

It's a tough world out there, baby. Lately I've been feeling like marketing in the face of *everything* feels weird and kind of icky. At the same time, I've noticed my friendships have taken a very caring tenor; when the world is on fire, it seems like we all just want to do small kindnesses for each other. These kindnesses can look very different, from commiserating over coffee to check in texts to little treats. With the holidays coming up, instead of retreating or burying my head in the sand, I've been looking for ways to both support my friends and small businesses I admire. I figured if I was looking for feminist gifts, maybe you are too?

Without further ado: your feminist gift guide! I hope you'll support these amazing artists while bringing a little cheer into your life.

The Patriarchy Hurts Us All Notebook & Sticker

Oh, did you think I wouldn't start this list by shamelessly self-promoting my own stationery line? People of any gender can appreciate that the patriarchy is bad for everyone, and this design is available in notebooks and stickers. I also have cards and stickers that are heartfelt, feminist, and make excellent gifts.

A notebook that says "the patriarchy hurts us all"

See You in Hell Enamel Pin

Christine Parker has expressed my rage pretty accurately with this enamel pin, and she also has a range of other feminist products. This "See You in Hell" pin kind of sums up the feeling of the moment, and would make a sweet gift for friends who feel similarly. If you're looking for something that's more specifically feminist, check out this set of Feminist Cryptid enamel pins.

Red, By Annie Cardi

This novel is important (and I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with the author!). It's the story of a young woman dealing with abortion, her religious experiences, and growing up. Red is certainly a story for our current reality. A modern retelling of The Scarlet Letter, this novel is a story we can all relate to.

This book is an amazing gift for both young adult and adult readers.

I Scream for Reproductive Justice Tea Towel

Overseasoned and Matriarch (based in RI!) has a ton of punny, tongue in cheek feminist tea towels (and lots of other really great items). I am particularly drawn to this one that says "I Scream for Reproductive Justice," but "Smash the Garlic and the Patriarchy" is also really amazing.

The perfect gift to add a big statement in the kitchen, an already politicized space.

Own Your Fucking Power Print

Jessica Molina's lettering and illustration are impactful. At a time when I feel helpless and hopeless, this piece stokes a fire in me and reminds me that I am NOT powerless. This print is inspiring and uplifting, and would be amazing decor in a dorm room or living room.

Buck the Patriarchy Barbie Mug

Remember how we all felt when Barbie first came out? What struck me most was the feeling of camaraderie the movie evoked. We're all Barbies just trying to overcome the patriarchy. I love this mug from Jessica Rigsby of My Depiction Addiction, and I think it would be a cute and impactful addition to your mug collection!

Don't Say Maybe Sticker

Women are so often socialized to be soft and accommodating. We worry about saying no - assertive women are called bossy or bitchy, and there are some situations where it doesn't feel safe to say no. This sticker from Women of Type is an incredible reminder that we have the power to say no

Getaway Car Sticker

Man, what I wouldn't give to just get in my car right now and drive somewhere else. I really love this sticker from Mango Illustrated, who has a whole range of feminist stickers (that are ALL excellent). Buy one or several to make the ultimate feminist care package.

Fired Up Enamel Pin

This aspirational enamel pin from The Inking Rose reminds me that I can't collapse into misery due to a looming fear. We need to be FIRED UP and ready to act. It's going to be a long four years, but if we stoke our anger, we can fight back.

Hope is the Thing With Feathers Print

This gorgeous illustration from Kimko Design is vulnerable and tender and strong. It reminds us that the hurt and pain we feel is very real, but also that now is the time for growth. It's a beautiful print that would make for some comforting home decor!

Support Women Owned Businesses and Cheer Your Friends

Hopefully, you've found something that resonates in the Feminist Gift Guide. Although the world seems crushing at the moment, there's so much we can do to support the women in our lives. Shop small and support women owned businesses, and give meaningful gifts to the important friends and family members in your life!
