Louie Awards Finalist

Feb 27, 2025

I'm thrilled to share the news that my Hanukkah card has been selected as a Louie Awards Finalist in the Religious Celebrations under $5.50 category! It's truly an honor and a joy to be recognized, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity. The Louie Awards recognize the best in the industry, so to say this is a compliment is the understatement of the year!

Louie Awards Finalist

The annual Louie Awards is an annual competition run by the Greeting Card Association that honors the best greeting cards in the industry. In their own words, "the Louie Awards recognize, reward, and celebrate that moment when art, editorial, and design perfectly coalesce to bring these emotions to life and memorialize the numerous milestones in our lives." The Louie Awards honor greeting cards, invitations, and announcements marketed in the U.S. during the previous calendar year. The Louies are named after Louis Prang, the lithographer known as the "father of the American Christmas Card."

The awards are judged blind, meaning that the judges don't know which companies have submitted which cards. The finalists are the top three cards in each category with the highest judging scores. There are 53 categories, which include two different pricing tiers and cover a range of subjects including thank you, holiday, and blank cards. One of the coolest categories is in paper engineering! I'm always amazed by what people can do with paper.

This year there were 900 cards submitted to the competition. There are 159 Louie Awards finalists from 83 companies across 53 categories. And I was one of them!

A Little Light

I designed this greeting card as part of the 8 Nights Drawing Challenge, which I cohost with other Jewish artists on Instagram. It's become one of my best selling cards!

Did you know that Hanukkah candles are supposed to be placed in a public facing window? It’s an announcement, a celebration, maybe even a challenge to the darkness. It’s as if we’re saying, “Look! The light is here.” In spite of it all, there is light in the world.

This may seem like a small act, but throughout Jewish history, it has not been safe to make such a declaration. Can you imagine? The daring and bravery to light even a single candle when in hiding?

I live a very comfortable and safe life, and I have never been fearful of displaying my Hanukkah celebration. And though Hanukkah is joyful and fun, there is also some amount of defiance in the act of lighting our candles. It’s a celebration of our continued existence. To life! To light!

This year felt especially dark, and the image of a little bit of light amid that darkness has really resonated with people. This has become my best selling card.

It's a Major Award!

I am truly honored to be a Louie Awards Finalist. I only recently opened my business, and this recognition is affirmation of my creative pursuits. Running my small business can sometimes feel lonely, but being a part of this prestigious community is both thrilling and humbling! Even if I don't win in July, just being counted among the industry best is truly one of my greatest artistic accomplishments. I am so glad that this art is meaningful to people!

Thank you so much to the GCA staff, judges, and volunteers for all the work they do to make this possible.
